- Opto22 controllers - I wrote a complete control system in Opto for NREL some years ago
- Wrote a communication bridge in Gensym G2 lisp-like between G2 and Opto - quite a challenge
- I know enough about security to know where to look
Motorcycles
I am an avid motorcyclist. I have been riding bikes for most of my life. Other than Hawaii, Pebbles and I have seen every US state together. And a bit of Canada as well. I prefer tent and sleeping bag type of travel vs. Amex Gold and hotels. I am a firm believer in full gear, don't leave home without it
My favorite is my 1996 BWM R1100RT, I call her Pebbles. I also used to own

In 2008 I got certified as an MSF instructor, it was one of the more difficult things I've done. Knowing (or thinking that you know) how to ride a bike is different from teaching others how to do it right. So I taught how to survive on the street for almost 10 years before it became somewhat of a job, I realized I needed to let go and I let my certification expire in 2018. Maybe I'll come back to it one day.
I did some interesting trips throughout the years. A memorable Denver to all places America in 2013 with my friend Richard we covered some 22000 miles in 10 weeks, visited the majority of US states and a lot of Canada. From Denver to Alaska's arctic circle to southernmost tip of Florida Keys, up to NYC, Quebec City, Niagara Falls and just about every place in between. Good times.
Sports & leisure
- Used to be active amateur table tennis player - made it as far as 1996 in USA Table Tennis ranking before I stopped playing in 2005
- Finished 2006 IM Florianopolis Brazil, 2007 IM Taupo NZ, 2008 IM Nice, France
- Decent skier although I have not practiced much since starting with triathlons in 2006
- Like just going to the mountains and walk around
- I like to bike & swim, somewhat dislike the run but I'll do it to keep in some kind of shape
- In 2005 I did an interesting Fat Boy Experiment - changing lifestyle to avoid doctors and cholesterol pills
